Big Wolverines

Little Wolves

Big Wolverines/Little Wolves is a new initiative we are launching to strengthen community, build leadership, and support students through key school transitions. A Big Brothers Big Sisters–style mentoring program entitled, Big Wolverines Little Wolves to connect our elementary students with positive role models from the middle high school.

The transition from elementary to middle school—and again from middle to high school—can be challenging for many students. New environments, expectations, and social dynamics can create anxiety and uncertainty. Our goal is to ease these transitions by pairing younger students with responsible, trained older peers who can offer guidance, encouragement, and friendship. For our pilot year, we had middle high school students make holiday cards for elementary students which were presented in time for the sing-along with a few other gifts. In February, the elementary students made candy-grams for the middle high school students. We will end the year with a field day in collaboration with other school & community members where all students are able to meet.

As it grows, this program will:

  • Foster strong, positive relationships between students across grade levels

  • Build leadership skills among mentors

  • Help younger students feel more confident and supported

  • Strengthen our broader school community

Fuzzy Sock Project - Fuzzy Socks, Bookmark, Card, & Candy Cane. WMHS students made cards and put together gift bundles for WES students. A group of Student Council members delivered them, there were lots of smiles!

Candy-Gram Project- WES students decorated bags with candy & a cookie inside. Then a group of 5th graders delivered them to students at WMHS and joined the middle schoolers for indoor recess and lunch!
